Daily Outtakes: ST Engineering helping laid-off workers

Over the years, ST Engineering, who operates the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overall) hangars at the Pensacola International, has had several names. The official name is ST-Aerospace/VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Inc.

Yesterday, we discussed how the company was laying off workers from Chili.

I received this email from VT MAE this morning at 5:38 a.m. (emphasis is mine):

Hi Rick,

I wanted to take the opportunity to follow up with you regarding the recent concerns that have been raised.

VT MAE is proud of the 1,700 jobs it is creating through its aircraft maintenance facility at Pensacola International Airport. The aircraft maintenance facility is a significant boost to the local economy with positive impact reverberating across our community, enhancing economic stability and growth for years to come.

To fill some of these jobs, VT MAE has employed people here on temporary work visas. We are incredibly appreciative of their contributions to our community. As their visas are temporary, they require U.S. government renewals which are never guaranteed. VT MAE must evaluate each individual’s circumstances to ensure the employee is eligible for continued sponsorship in their particular visa category. VT MAE is currently exploring other employment-based visa options as means to continue working with these valued colleagues. We are communicating with all impacted employees and providing appropriate documentation to help with visa renewal/application.

Best regards,

Alvin Bass
