Amendment Fever
Amendment 3, the Marijuana Legalization Initiative, may have picked up a new supporter, Donald Trump.
- On Truth Social: “In Florida, like so many other States that have already given their approval, personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults with Amendment 3. Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the Voters, so it should be done correctly. We need the State Legislature to responsibly create laws that prohibit the use of it in public spaces, so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go, like we do in many of the Democrat run Cities.”
What is Amendment 3?
Title: Adult Personal Use of Marijuana
Text: “Allows adults 21 years or older to possess, purchase, or use marijuana products and marijuana accessories for non-medical personal consumption by smoking, ingestion, or otherwise; allows Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers, and other state licensed entities, to acquire, cultivate, process, manufacture, sell, and distribute such products and accessories. Applies to Florida law; does not change, or immunize violations of, federal law. Establishes possession limits for personal use. Allows consistent legislation. Defines terms. Provides effective date.”
Yes: supports legalizing marijuana for adults 21 years old and older and allowing individuals to possess up to three ounces of marijuana.
No: opposes legalizing marijuana for adult use in Florida.
A 60% supermajority vote is required for the approval of the amendment.
Meanwhile: Florida Politics reports Gov. DeSantis’ chief of staff is trolling State Sen. Joe Gruters for endorsing Amendment 3.
- Gruters is a former Republican Party of Florida Chair and candidate for Chief Financial Officer in 2026
