The Florida Public Archaeology Network and UWF Historic Trust will host Dash Through the Past, a run/walk scavenger hunt race in downtown Pensacola in celebration of Florida Archaeology Month, on March 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is the first official event in Pensacola to celebrate Florida Archaeology Month throughout March 2015.

Dash through the Past will begin and end at the FPAN Coordinating Center at 207 East Main Street in downtown Pensacola (next to the Fish House). This race through historic, downtown Pensacola offers individuals or teams of two a chance to compete over a two-mile course challenge for prizes. Prizes this year are courtesy of the UWF Historic Trust, Pensacola Archaeological Society, Florida Public Archaeology Network, UWF Archaeology Institute, and the Fish House Restaurant.

Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the hunt begins at 10:00 a.m. Each participant will receive a map and a list of challenges on the day of the race. There is no set route or order in which challenges must be completed. Prizes will be awarded to first place and runner up. Participants will also have a chance to pick up a free copy of the 2015 Florida Archaeology Month poster. A $10.00 donation entitles participants to FPAN aluminum water bottle while supplies lasts.

Florida’s diverse history and prehistory stretches back over 12,000 years. Every March, statewide programs and events celebrating Florida Archaeology Month are designed to encourage Floridians and visitors to learn more about the archaeology and history of the state, and to preserve these important parts of Florida’s rich cultural heritage.
