Dauphin Island hit with BP oil


Red-brown oil has hit the beaches on Dauphin Island. We knew it was inevitable, even though many hoped that just maybe our area would be spared. Unfortunately, with the Deepwater Horizon well still spewing oil after six weeks, it was nearly impossible for us to avoid this disaster. (read more)

Today, the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center will reactivate and we will see how well we are prepared for this red-brown tide. Watch Mobile Bay closely it could be precursor to what we may experience.

Oil on the shore sort of hurts any tourism marketing campaign. Don’t expect big crowds on the beach this weekend ….unless they are in HazMat suits.
