Deconstructing No Boss Mayor, Part 1

The No Boss Mayor website has five opinions to support their opposition to the proposed charter. Here is the first one:

Watching the proponents of the Strong Mayor proposal reminds me of the old-fashioned Snake Oil salesmen of yesteryear. They went door to door touting Snake Oil – the magic tonic that cures all. After the Civil War, Carpet Baggers flooded the South selling Snake Oil to anyone gullible enough to believe their outlandish claims. These individual were not out for the common good but for their individual gain. It looks like history is repeating itself.

Proponents of the new charter (Snake Oil) have stated that a Strong Mayor would have prevented the debacle that occurred with the Maritime Park bonds. What a pot of bull. At meetings last week, these same proponents inferred that a Strong Mayor would improve education, eliminate poverty, help our children and improve the environment. More Snake Oil and more outlandish claims. However, do not take them for granted the City Council (excluding John Jerralds) bought the whole case of Snake Oil from these Carpet Baggers. Have you heard any of our City Council members oppose this Strong Mayor on the record? Let me know if they do. Is this Strong Mayor also faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a speeding locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound?

In real life there is a whole lot of kryptonite just lying around. So gather up your common sense and tell these Snake Oil salesmen we aren’t buying. Vote No Boss Mayor

Samuel Horton

Deconstruction:
Sam Horton served on the Charter Review Commission. He could not convince his fellow commission members to agree with his views so now he attacks the people with which he served for over 18 months. He calls them “Snake Oil Salesmen” and “Carpetbaggers. When Don Caton-an anti-charter person, appeared before the City Council, he said that anyone who attacks his opponent and not the issues must have a weak argument. What does Mr. Caton think of his fellow PAC member?

Education, poverty, our children and environment are issues that city needs to address. To say a strong mayor will work on these issues is not outlandish.

Horton insinuates that the Council is pushing this charter. Of course, he is wrong. Wiggins, Wu and Canada-Wynn are actively working to defeat it.

This opinion is filled with attacks but has no meat. It’s interesting that NBM would post it on their website.
