Tallahassee–Florida Senate President Don Gaetz (R-Niceville) has appointed former State Representative DeeDee Davis to the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council.
“The people of our state are very fortunate to have the benefit of DeeDee’s unique abilities and insights in this important role,†said the Senate President. “Her strong background and expertise in education, the arts and economic development make a perfect combination of credentials for guiding and promoting our state’s growing film and entertainment industries.â€
Representative Davis (D-Pensacola) served as an educator for more than 25 years, teaching high school government, history, law and economics. In 1990, she was selected as Florida’s Teacher of the Year. She was later inducted into the Florida Educators Hall of Fame. In 1998, she was elected to represent Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in the State House of Representatives.
A leader in many community causes, DeeDee Davis has served as president of the Gulf Coast Economics Club, president of the Professional Women’s Opera Board and president of the Aragon Group which oversees a neo-traditional community and real estate development. She is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Florida Council on Aging.
She is a successful commercial realtor and a freelance writer and columnist for the Pensacola News Journal.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Auburn University and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is a fifth generation Floridian.
The Florida Film & Entertainment Advisory Council guides and sets policy for the Department of Economic Opportunity and the Florida Office of Film and Entertainment in developing, marketing, promoting, and providing service to Florida’s growing entertainment, film and television industry.
President Gaetz has named Representative Davis to serve as the Senate’s appointee on the Council for a term of office that begins immediately and expires August 1, 2018.
