Disagree with MOB

I have to disagree with daily columnist and court room diarist, Mark O’Brien, on his last column:

Economics 101: Florida offers some of the cheapest tuition in the nation, so it makes sense to raise students’ fees and give taxpayers a break.”

Florida’s higher education system is one of the best in the country. It’s affordable. There is even a scholarship program – Bright Futures – that is based on merit that helps keep our best students in state.

So we need to raise the tuition so MOB and his WASPO buddies can get a tax break? How? Other than sales tax what taxes do MOB and his pals pay to the state? When the state rolls back taxes on corporations do we ever feel it? There is no break for taxpayers by raising tuition.
Don’t buy into the philosophy – if our tuition is lower than other states then we must raise our tuition. Raisng tuition limits access to higher education and puts more debt on graduates who have to borrow money to go to college.

…MOB’s column is in line with his opposition to the Community Maritime Park – “Make everything as hard as possible for future generations so older generations and retirees can live better.”
