The Democratic Women’s Club of Escambia County is hosting special event for Black History Month featuring Ciara Taylor, political director for the “Dream Defenders”.

She will be speaking on Senate Bill 778, addressing the issue of stopping the school to prison pipeline that was proposed by Senator Bullard. The Dream Defenders are a social justice advocacy group of young African Americans and Hispanic youths who have formed to try to change the politics of discrimination that are standing in the way of their “dreams”. They organized a “sit In’’ at Tallahassee for over 30 days in an attempt to get the “stand your ground” law repealed during the Trayvonne Martin time.

The event will be held Thursday Feb. 13 from 11am to 12:30 pm at the West Florida Public Library, 239 North Spring St., Pensacola. If you have any questions, please call Dianne Krumel at 850-572-8235.
