ECAT CARES Food Drive Saturday

System “drives” community initiative benefitting local food pantries

Today, representatives from Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) announced ECAT Cares, a food drive benefitting St. Anne’s Catholic Church’s food pantry and other local non-profits impacted by the recent storm and severe flooding. The initiative demonstrates the system’s commitment to serving the community and those in need. On Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., non-perishable food items will be collected on board ECAT trolleys parked at the following locations:

· ECAT’s main facility located at 1515 W. Fairfield Dr.
· Winn-Dixie located at 5975 Mobile Hwy.

“So many in our community have been negatively impacted by the storm,” said Herold Humphrey, General Manager of ECAT. “We want to find a way to help as many people as we can during the recovery period, and we felt that stocking the shelves of St. Anne’s and others who needed food would be a great way to assist those who needed it most.”

St. Anne’s Catholic Church, located on Saufley Field Road, feeds those in need each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until noon. With the help of volunteers and donations, they are able to feed approximately 140 people each day.

“We are so grateful to Winn-Dixie for partnering with us on this project,” said Tonya Ellis, Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “It is partnerships like this that show how wonderful our community is and how dedicated we are to helping each other.”
