Economic indicators worsen

I’ve started reviewing the Prosperity Pensacola report and trying to determine where we are one year later. So far the numbers are not moving in a positive direction for Escambia County.
Population estimate: down 198 from 2005 to 2006.

Household incomes $75K and more: down 6%.

Public school enrollment: down 606 from 2004-05 to 2005-06. down 2,182 students from 1998-99.

Private school enrollment: down 344 students

Births to teen mothers: up 4%

Some positives

Homelessness from 2005 to 2006 dropped from 9100 to 2911 (probably reflects aftermath of Ivan).

FCAT Reading scores improved for middle and high school students. Elementary school held the same.
