WEAR TV 3 reported last night that K-9 unit at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has been temporarily shutdown by the Department of Justice. According to WEAR, the Department of Justice – which is investigating complaint filed against the McNesby administration – says the ECSO was not properly documenting its use of canines. See video.
NorthEscambia.com interviewed Sheriff David Morgan who said that the K-9 unit will remain off the streets for three to six weeks. The 14 K-9 handlers will train on new policies and procedures to avoid the types of problems that led to the DOJ findings. They will also patrol the streets during the down time without their dogs.
