ECYJC Heads to Tallahassee

The next meeting of the Escambia County Youth Justice Coalition will be March 14. The ECYJC deals with juvenile justice issues and is focused on reducing the number of youths heading into the justice system.

Two days prior to its local meeting, the ECYJC travels to the state the capitol for Lobbying Day in Tallahassee. The group will be focusing on efforts to repeal a 2011 bill that allows for juveniles to be incarcerated at adult facilities.

The local advocacy organization is planning on taking a van or bus to Tallahassee, departing in the morning and returning that same evening; meals will be provided. Anyone wishing to travel with the group should contact Sara Latshaw, of the American Civil Liberties Union, at (850)429-9128, or Keyontay Humphries, of the Southern Poverty Law Center, at (305)537-0587.

The March 14 local meeting will be held at First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St., in downtown Pensacola. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
