‘Empty the Shelters’ pet adoption event

BISSELL Pet Foundation is hosting an emergency “Empty the Shelters” adoption event at 10 Florida shelters from Feb. 24 – 28, including Pensacola Humane Society. This is a statewide effort to relieve overcrowded shelters after their assistance with a large-scale neglect case in Santa Rosa County, Fla. BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $25 or less per dog or cat to help pets find loving homes.

Pensacola Humane Society will participate Feb. 24-26, at 5 N Q St, offering waived adoption fees for all available dogs and cats. All interested adopters can find more details online at www.pensacolahumane.org.

The “Empty the Shelters” event began in 2016 to encourage more families to choose adoption. Since its inception, BISSELL Pet Foundation has expanded its “Empty the Shelter” reach to organizations in 45 states and Canada, partnering with more than 400 shelters. As a result, more than 83,000 pets have been adopted through “Empty the Shelters” events. This emergency adoption event aims to find adoptive homes for pets often overlooked in animal shelters.

“Shelters throughout Florida are coming together to support the Santa Rosa Animal Shelter and the pets from this devastating case,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder at BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Collaboration saves lives and BISSELL Pet Foundation is honored to be a part of the journey for these pets and the shelters that have taken them into their programs. Thank you to Santa Rosa County Animal Services for giving these dogs a second chance.”

“Pensacola Humane Society is happy to assist our neighboring county shelter with the placement of these animals and we are partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation to expedite the process of these animals finding their forever homes. At this time we have 40 available animals, 5 of which are dogs that were involved in the unfortunate situation. If you are interested in adopting or fostering one of our animals, please apply today.” said Jan Castillo, Executive Director of Pensacola Humane Society.

This is our first Empty the Shelter event for this year and we hope that it is as wildly successful for our animals as the Holiday Hope event was this past December.
