The arrested head football coach of Escambia High School, Scott Anderson, resigned in 2004 as the head coach of Columbia High School after only coaching one game and had his educator’s certificate placed in jeopardy over alleged inappropriate conduct during a football practice.
Anderson and his assistant coach Timothy Jansky were arrested last week by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office on misdemeanor obstruction of justice charges that are tied to an alleged battery involving two Escambia High football players. However, this isn’t the first time Anderson’s coaching has been drawn scrutiny.
The Lake City Reporter reported on the recent incident and then did some digging into Anderson’s brief stint at Columbia High. According to documents from the Florida Education Practices Commission filed in September 2005, the state commissioner of education filed a petition to have Anderson’s educator’s certificate suspended, revoked, permanently revoked or face other disciplinary actions for his actions against a 16-year-old Columbia High School football player in 2004.
The report said Anderson made the player stand on the 50-yard-line while his teammates ran teammates ran sprints, reportedly telling the team they would run all night unless they “took the 16-year-old student out.†Of course, the players attacked the student.
