Escambia County moves past 5K cases

Escambia now has had 5,054 total COVID cases –  4424 Florida residents and 630 non-Florida residents.

Florida had 13,965 new cases and surpassed yesterday’s COVID death record with 156 additional deaths.

Escambia County had its second largest day for new cases – 309.  Of those new cases, 286 are Florida residents, 19 tied to nursing homes (which is concerning), five in corrections, median age of 38, and positivity rate of 10.9% on 2,623 test results for July 15.

Over the past five days – July 11-15 – Escambia has recorded more positives (1,294 cases) than the entire month of June (1023 cases.)

We’ve had a new surge in long-term care facilities. In June, Escambia had 85 new cases in LTCs – from 259 to 344.  For July 1-15, LTC cases jumped from 344 tp 443 – 99 new cases. Remember LTC patients have been in quarantine since mid-March.

The county had another death (now 56) and 30 more hospitalizations (now 251), according to FDOH.


Comparisons

For July 15, Chicago recorded 3,877 test results and had 209 positives – 1,254 more tests and 100 fewer positives than Escambia.

For July 15, Seattle area recorded 4,121 test results and had 109 positives – 1,498 more tests and 200 fewer positives than Escambia.

According to Alabama dashboard, Mobile County has had 5,514 positives ytd – only 460 more than Escambia, which has 100,000 fewer people than Mobile.

Mississippi’s governor had ordered several counties enhanced safety protocols, including the use of a mask or face covering in public and additional limits on social gathering sizes, beginning July 13. Among those counties are Harrison (Biloxi/Gulfport) and Jackson (Pascagoula)

Harrison has 1,260 positives and 17 deaths – 3,794 fewer cases and 39 fewer deaths than Escambia.

Jackson has 828 and 28 deaths – 4,226 fewer cases and 28 fewer deaths than Escambia.
