Escambia County will get more aggressive on lion fish

Robert Turpin, Escambia County’s Marine Resources Manager, told the Board of County Commissioners today at its agenda review meeting that the county plans to sponsor a lion fish category in upcoming fishing rodeos. He said when it was done at a fishing rodeo in Destin that 1,700 lion fish were caught.

He said the that the goal is to reduce the lion fish population by 25 percent this year and the county will hold a lion fish control workshop on April 14.
