Escambia COVID update

Escambia County had 1,006 more Florida resident COVID-19 cases last week – 57% from the previous week. The positivity rate jumped from 8.5% to 10.1%. We had 16 more deaths, half of which were associated with long-term care facilities.

Last Friday, Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson told Inweekly that he expected the vaccine for COVID-19 to be available in the Pensacola area in January or February.

“We’ve been told the vaccine is going to come to hospitals directly,” said the mayor.  “It starts with hospital workers, first responders, and then the long-term care. The next phase is like your essential workers.”
