Today Escambia County Deputy Kerem Suhi will be awarded the Governor’s Medal of Heroism by Governor Rick Scott in Tallahassee.
In March 2013, Deputy Suhi pulled Sgt. Shedrick Johnson to safety after Sgt. Johnson was shot in the leg by a robbery suspect. As the suspect pointed his gun at Deputy Suhi and Sgt. Johnson, Deputy Suhi retreated to a safe place behind a vehicle and put a tourniquet on Sgt. Johnson before EMS arrived. Due to his courage and quick actions Deputy Suhi was able to save the life of a fellow officer.
