Escambia ICU bed availability down to 8 percent

Yesterday, I picked up on the decrease in ICU beds locally. The News Service of Florida reports the availability is 19.7 percent statewide and only 8 percent in Escambia County. Only 10 counties have a lower percentage – and we have four hospitals.

TALLAHASSEE — As hospitals treat thousands of COVID-19 patients, the state Agency for Health Care Administration updates information about available intensive-care unit beds. As of about 6 p.m. Monday, 19.7 percent of adult intensive-care unit beds statewide were available,  but numbers varied by county. Here were county-by-county percentages of available adult ICU beds as of Monday:

— Hendry County: 100 percent

— Martin County: 65.2 percent

— Walton County: 47.8 percent

— Monroe County: 46.2 percent

— Highlands County: 43.3 percent

— Santa Rosa County: 40.9 percent

— St. Johns County: 40.9 percent

— DeSoto County: 37.5 percent

— Jackson County: 33.3 percent

— Palm Beach County: 33.1 percent

— Lee County: 32.1 percent

— Orange County; 28 percent

— Sarasota County: 27.8 percent

— Osceola County: 27.6 percent

— Bay County: 25.7 percent

— Collier County: 24.1 percent

— Volusia County: 23.1 percent

— Brevard County: 22.5 percent

— Citrus County: 22.5 percent

— Flagler County: 22.2 percent

— Hernando County: 20.6 percent

— Polk County: 20.3 percent

— Clay County: 20 percent

— Duval County: 19.9 percent
