The first Florida project funded under the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Early Restoration Projects (ERP) will begin next week. The project involves improvements to the Galvez Boat Landing in Escambia County.
The $116,694 project will replace existing docks with three new, larger docks. A “Notice to Proceed†for the project was issued last week by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The project is the first NRDA ERP project in the state. The funding for the project is part of the $1 billion agreement reached between the Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Trustees and BP in response to the 2010 oil spill. The funds are to be used for early restoration work and do not include other settlements, or yet-to-come RESTORE money.
Other local NRDA projects scheduled to begin in the upcoming months include the Navy Point public boat launch ($160,053), a streets project on Mahogany Mill Road, also to include a park and amenities ($1.5 million) and sand dune restoration on Pensacola Beach ($644,487).
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Galvez boat ramp project will be held Aug. 24 at 9 a.m. The Galvez boat ramp is located just south of Innerarity Point Road, on Galvez Road.
