Escambia outbreak worse than Chicago, Seattle and D.C.

Florida has 7,347 more COVID cases with a positivity rate of 16.1% for July 6.

Escambia County has 117 new cases – 93 are Florida residents, nine are associated with nursing homes, three with correctional, median age 34 and positivity rate 15.6% on 602 test results. FDOH reports 120 hospitalizations YTD (still less than city’s report)–up 10 from July 5. The county had another death, bringing total to 48.

Hospitalizations and deaths lag behind the rise in positives.

Last Monday, June 29, Escambia County had 195 positives – but for 1,814 tests, three times the tests results reported for July 6.

Monday, June 22: 42, 8.4%

Monday, June 15: 15, 3.4%

Monday, June 8: 4, 0.8%

Monday, June 1: 8, 3.4%


For July 6,  Chicago reported 185 positives out of 3,905 test results – 4.7% positivity rate.  About 6.84 cases per 100,000 people.

For July 6, King County – where Seattle is located –  reported 126 positives out of 2,358 test results – 5.3% positivity rate. About 5.59 cases per 100,000 people. King County had 7 more hospitalizations.

For July 6, Escambia reported 93 positives among locals out of 602 tests results – 15.6% positivity.  About 29.2 cases per 100,000 people. Escambia had 10 additional hospitalizations, per FDOH.

The District of Columbia had only 54 new cases and no additional deaths – 7.65 cases per 100,000 people.

Warm weather isn’t helping Escambia County be less vulnerable.


In Santa Rosa County, all 39 new cases are Florida residents, one tied to nursing homes, none to correctional, median age 45 and positivity rate of 16.9% for 237 tests on July 6.
