Escambia School District drops to a ‘C’ grade

The Escambia County School District dropped from a B to a C grade for the 2015-16 school year, according to preliminary results released Friday by the state Department of Education.

The News Service of Florida reports that Florida saw fewer public schools earn “A” and “F” grades during the 2015-16 school year. The number of schools receiving “A” grades dropped from 1,184 during the 2014-15 year to 741, while the number of schools receiving “F” grades went from 204 to 103. The numbers of schools receiving “B,” “C” and “D” grades increased. The state uses a series of factors to grade the performances of schools, including student achievement and learning gains. The grading system has long been controversial and has undergone changes during the past two years.

Escambia’s total score, 543, placed it in the bottom 15 school districts in the state. Okaloosa is an A district will a total score of 696,and Santa Rosa is a B district will a total score of 673.
