According to the Florida Department of Education, school enrollment is down 3,084 students for Escambia County, contrary to today’s News Journal article.

At this time last year, the Escambia County had 39,974 students. The PNJ reports 36,890 have enrolled this year.

Santa Rosa County had 28,479 students last fall and 28,343 this year — a drop fo 136 students.

Apparently the daily newspaper is comparing 2019-20 enrollment to the end of the 2018-19 school year. However, school district receive funds based on the fall enrollment numbers.
