Escambia schools still needs teachers, classes start next week

Escambia County schools open in less than a week, and the school district still has teaching openings. To fill the 30 or so jobs, the district is willing to hire college graduates without teaching certificates.

Hmmm, failing school district looking for teachers who will have start work in four business days. Certificates not necessary. This doesn’t give the public much confidence that the school grades will improve much this school year.

And the bigger question is: why is the Escambia County School District having trouble finding qualified teachers?

Here’s the information on today’s job fair:

If you have a college degree and you have considered teaching, Escambia County School District would like to talk to you about a career in education. Those with a four-year degree may be eligible to enter the teaching profession and become temporarily certified and then coached in how to achieve a permanent certification of the course of three years. Those with Associates Degrees may be interested in becoming a substitute teacher, an experience that can help you determine if you wish to work toward becoming a certified teacher.
