After the dismissal of the former Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino’s ethics complaints against him and his agency, Sheriff David Morgan told Inweekly that he has directed the attorneys from the Florida Sheriff’s Risk Management Fund to attempt to recoup any monies spent in defense of the claims from Valentino.
Valentino filed his complaints in October 2014 after losing his bid for a third term. Newcomer Doug Underhill defeated Valentino in the Republican primary, 62.5% to 37.5%.
In January, the Florida Ethics Commission dismissed an ethics complaint filed by Valentino against Escambia County Chief Deputy Eric Haines. In a press release, the Commission wrote the complaint had been dismissed for lack of legal sufficiency.
