Press Release from Sen. Greg Evers: As we face the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac entering the gulf and strengthening into a hurricane by early next week, I hope everyone takes the necessary precautions to safeguard their homes and get additional supplies should there be any change in Isaac’s track and strength.
I recommend everyone keep vigilant of any changes throughout the weekend so we may all be as prepared as possible. For detailed information on Tropical Storm Isaac and any coastal warnings, click here.
Please be mindful of what you should be prepared with by early next week and in the case of any potential hurricane:
- Get necessary supplies including batteries, water and canned foods.
- Learn your hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground.
- Make plans to secure your property by covering all windows and installing shutters or boards.
- Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant.
- Plan to bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down.
- Determine how and where to secure boat or any items that cannot be brought in doors.
- Install a generator for emergencies.
- Be aware of who to contact at your local emergency management office (some listed below).
