Face Melter (Acoustic Version)

Yonder Mountain String Band kicked off the Florida leg of its tour last night at Vinyl Music Hall in Pensacola. After logging a couple of days of R&R in town, the band seemed as excited as the club’s packed house about the midweek hoedown.

“If we’d known you were this much fun, we would have come here before now,” lead singer and mandolinist Jeff Austin told the audience.

Hailing from Colorado, Yonder Mountain plays something akin to bluegrass in outer space. The band is currently on its Cabin Fever Tour 2012. Last night’s show featured two sets of blistering originals, as well as covers by the Beatles, Neil Young and the Talking Heads.

Austin noted that this was the first time the band had played in Pensacola. He mentioned several times how much fun their stay had been, repeatedly referencing the “lazy river.”

“Thanks for coming out on a Wednesday night to a place we’d never been before,” he said. “We didn’t know what to expect—good job.”
