Father body slams and kills infant son, sentenced to 30 years

State Attorney William Eddins announced today that the Honorable Kelvin Wells has sentenced Alonso Castillo to 30 years in the Department of Corrections in the death of his six-month-old son, Draven Castillo.

Alonso Castillo, age 26, pled guilty to Second Degree Murder on Aug. 25. The charges arose from an incident on Oct. 21, 2015 when the Defendant was watching his son. Draven became fussy and the Defendant decided to wrestle with his son.

In a move from his favorite wrestler, the Undertaker, the Defendant lifted Draven into the air and slammed him on to the ground. Draven suffered a traumatic brain injury and a fractured skull. The child passed away as a result of his injuries on October 23, 2015.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Defuniak Springs Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Angela Mason.
