William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying should have been required reading at Ole Miss. It wasn’t, but I did read chapters while sitting under a tree on his estate, Rowan Oak, which is near the campus.
What you may not know is Faulkner wrote the novel in six weeks while working at a power plant in the winter of 1929-30.
