“Rick, you know how vindictive Whitehead is. You just don’t know what he might do if he is removed from the chairmanship.” These are the exact words from a person inside the Escambia County Complex.
People are afraid of Mike Whitehead. They are afraid that he might hurt them and make their lives miserable for the next six months if his fellow commissioners are bold enough to vote him out as the commission chairman.
It’s sad that the county can’t just take care of its citizens. Instead we have the 230-pound bully that people are worried about setting off. Reminds me of the W.D. Childers days when staff members and commissioners dreaded those visits from the Banty Rooster.
I hate bullies. They have to be confronted. We can’t let one so dominant our county government that people live in fear when they go to work or attend a county meeting.
Will Whitehead step down voluntarily? – probably not. Will his fellow commissioners have the courage to act? They have let him browbeat them and the public at the meetings.
I do know that the commissioners are receiving emails and phone calls. Maybe we, the little guys, can win this and end Good Ole Boy rule.
BTW: Don’t worry about me. I’ve been beaten up by bullies before. Probably will be again. I will not live in fear.
