Fear in high schools

The high schools are under tight security after the slaying of high school student Daryl Williams, 15, was fatally shot Saturday night during an altercation in the Burger King parking lot on Pensacola Boulevard.

The word we get is that Williams was a very bright, promising student at Pine Forest. Parents kept their kids home at PHS, Pine Forest and Washington on Monday. Asst. Superintendent Ronnie Arnold reported on my radio show yesterday that absents were down to just 19% on Tuesday.

Kids are scared and there is a lot of talk about gangs and revenge shootings. Arnold says that law enforcement is running down all the rumors and has found no evidence to substantiate the stories.
