There will soon be a new boat on the local waterways—the Pensacola Fire Department’s Fire Boat One. The department, along with Mayor Ashton Hayward and the Pensacola City Council, will host a christening ceremony for the vessel tomorrow morning.
Fire Boat One—which will be used to fight fires on the water and waterfront—was purchased with federal Port Security Grant dollars and manufactured by Metalcraft Marine. The 36-foot boat has a top speed of 45 mph, and is equipped with a fire pump capable of 2,000 gallons per minute.
Tomorrow’s christening ceremony is at 10 a.m. on the Palafox Pier.
