Fire Boat One—which will be used to fight fires on the water and waterfront—was purchased with federal Port Security Grant dollars and manufactured by Metalcraft Marine. The 36-foot boat has a top speed of 45 mph, and is equipped with a fire pump capable of 2,000 gallons per minute.

Tomorrow’s christening ceremony is at 10 a.m. on the Palafox Pier.
