Five Flags Speedway to Host Richest Winged Sprint Car Race in History

Five Flags Speedway is making history again.

The legendary Pensacola short track has been selected to host the kick-off event for the brand-new Race for the Million (RFTM) series—the richest winged pavement sprint car series ever assembled. The opener goes Friday, April 10, and it’s going to be unlike anything fans have seen on the high banks before.

  • Details: The RFTM is a four-race series with a total payout of $1 million. The April 10 opener alone features over $600,000 in purse money, plus a series point fund of $300,000. That kind of money draws the best talent in short-track racing, and Five Flags gets first crack at it.

“Five Flags Speedway is one of the most historic tracks in the South, and we are proud of the events we have created over the years,” said General Manager Tim Bryant. “The Race for the Million will feature the fastest short-track cars in the world, and launching the richest sprint car series here ever means fans will see an unparalleled level of competition right on our high banks.”

The cars at the center of this spectacle are 410-winged pavement sprint cars—wide-open, high-horsepower machines that push the limits of what’s possible on a short track. These aren’t cars that ease into corners. They attack them.

The RFTM is positioning itself as a full-scale entertainment experience, not just a race night. The series is designed to redefine what a Friday night at a pavement oval looks like, and Five Flags—home of the iconic Snowball Derby—is the perfect venue to set that tone.

For those who can’t make it to the track, FloSports will broadcast the April 10th race exclusively live. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. Racing starts at 7:00 p.m.

Five Flags has long been a proving ground where legends are made. The Snowball Derby has been drawing the nation’s top late model talent to Pensacola for decades. Now the RFTM adds another marquee event to that legacy.

Mark your calendars. April 10. Five Flags Speedway. The richest sprint car race in winged pavement history starts here.
