Fleming to retire


Pensacola City Attorney John Fleming is retiring effective July 18 after working for the city 28 years. The City Council is considering candidates by either direct selection, conducting an advertised candidate search, or hiring a recruitment consultant at an estimated cost of $25,000.

Fleming is paid a base salary of $125,400, but there are lots of bennies. According to a memo obtained through an IN public records request, Fleming’s package when he was first promoted to City Attorney in Jan. 2006 included

Salary: $121,609.28
Longevity pay: $10,945.00
Car Allowance: $6000.00
Total cash: $138,554.28

Plus Insurance:
Health: $7558.72
Dental: $832.32
Life: $1072.50
Disability: $1385.54
Total Insurance: $10,849.08

Plus:
Deferred Compensation (15%): $19,141.39
Social security replacement program:$5,840.00
Total deferred: $24,981.39

Total package in Jan. 2006: $174,184.78

Plus: 42 days a year of paid personal time (sick, vacation, whatever) – calculated 28 hour per month. Jan. 2006 Value: $20613.60. He is paid anything over 80 hours per year if he doesn’t use the time. ****Realize that Fleming doesn’t have to work two months out of the year and still get paid – based on an average of 21 work days in a month.
