The 2012 edition of the report grades states based on their policies and performance in six education areas: Chance for Success, K-12 Achievement, Standards, Assessments and Accountability, The Teaching Profession, School Finance Analysis and Transitions and Alignment. Florida scored an overall grade of C+.
Highlights of the report show that Florida earned an A in Standards, Assessments and Accountability. The state ranked fifth in the nation for this category. Florida is also second in the nation in the equal distribution of funds amongst its school districts. Points were earned by the state’s overall graduation index increase of 14 percentage points from 2000-2008.
Children aren’t just graduating, but excelling in their studies. Advanced Placement achievement and improvement points increased. Florida was the fourth highest state in the percent of students who scored a 3 or higher on the AP tests and third highest for percentage of increase.
