Carlos Mendoza, who played three seasons with the Pensacola Pelicans, is a candidate for the Boston Red Sox manager’s job. Mendoza was promoted from the New York Yankee’s quality control and infield coach to bench coach following the 2019 season.
The 41-year-old Mendoza this year completed his 12th consecutive season with  the Yankees’ organization. He has has managed two seasons in the Arizona Fall League and spent two years of managing in the low levels of the Yankees’ farm system.
Mendoza, a Venezuela native, played 13 professional seasons in the minors for the Giants, Yankees and independent Pensacola (2004-2006). The switch-hitting infielder posted career highs in home runs (10) and RBI (59) in 2005. Â Playing primarily second base, he was a mainstay of the infield. Â In August 2006, the Pelicans sold his contract to the NY Yankees.
