General Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr. Memorial Foundation has changed how it describes the monument and plaza it wishes to build to honor the Pensacola native and war hero.
- What was once a “memorial plaza” is now an “open air museum plaza,” but thanks to web.archive.org, we remember how the foundation has referred to the project since 2020.
With Escambia County Clerk Pam Childers recently redefining the project as a “venue,” will the Foundation have to change the wording to “open air museum memorial venue?”
From June 4, 2024: Our next mission: continue to increase awareness of the General and his legacy, including the building of a memorial plaza at the Pensacola end of the “Chappie” James Bridge. The plaza will include a larger-than-life statue of General James and an F-4 Phantom, the aircraft he flew during the Viet Nam War.
Today: Our next mission: continue to increase awareness of the General and his legacy, including the building of an open air museum memorial at the Pensacola end of the “Chappie” James Bridge. The open air museum will include a larger-than-life statue of General James and an F-4 Phantom, the aircraft he flew during the Viet Nam War.
Problem: The Foundation’s agreements with the City of Pensacola are for the “General Daniel “Chappie” James Memorial
Plaza in Wayside Park.”
