Pensacola Police report: The 53-foot long 18-wheeler has been freed from the grasp of the 17th Avenue trestle after it became lodged under the bridge this afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. as the driver – Owen P. Ainsworth Jr., 33, of Crystal Springs, Miss. – was northbound on 17th Avenue from Bayfront Parkway, said Officer Tony Garza.

Garza said the truck was leased by UPS Freight from Penske and was carrying automobile parts. The truck measured about 13 feet 6 inches tall; the trestle clearance height is 10 feet 8 inches.

The top sleeper portion of the cab and half of the trailer were a total loss. Garza said CSX officials have been notified and will do an inspection as soon as possible; train traffic in the meantime has been halted.

Traffic was diverted from the area for about an hour before the trailer was freed. Garza said the crash remains under investigation; no charges have been filed. No one was injured in the incident.
