In honor of President’s Day, Gulf Islands National Seashore will join national parks across the country by celebrating a fee free weekend. The fee free weekend will be Feb. 15-17. All visitors who arrive on any of these days will be allowed to enter the Fort Pickens, Opal Beach, and Perdido Key Areas of the Seashore free of charge.

Park visitors are reminded that the fee-free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping or reservations. Park entrance stations will have Interagency Annual, Interagency Senior and Gulf Islands National Seashore Annual Passes available for purchase.

Superintendent Dan Brown encourages visitors and residents to come explore and enjoy the beautiful beaches, museums, programs, historic forts and recreational opportunities offered by the Seashore. Camping is available at the Fort Pickens area of the Seashore. All sites are $26 per night with water, electricity, grills/fire rings, and picnic tables. Reservations can be made by calling Recreation.Gov at 877-444-6777, or through the website at www.recreation.gov. Walk-ins are also welcome on a space available basis.

Additional fee free days in 2014 previously announced by the National Park Service include: April 19th to April 20th (National Park Week’s opening weekend), August 25th (National Park Service’s 98th birthday), September 27th (National Public Lands Day), and November 11th (Veterans Day). For a full description of the facilities and programs currently available, visit the park web site at www.nps.gov/guis or contact the Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center at 850-934-2600.
