I read the daily newspaper’s article on yesterday’s Community Maritime Park Associates Board meeting. It’s titled “Maritime Park plan in flux.”

Folks, we have to get rid of this notion that the Community Maritime Park plans can’t be adjusted from the original conceptual drawings done three years ago. Thanks to Marty Donovan and his knuckleheads we lost valuable time in building the park. [Remember this is the same Marty Donovan who just voted for an airport hotel project and development whose agreement says the drawings are only illustrations and not binding.]

The world has changed since 2005, but the park is needed now more than ever. We have to accept some changes in how the park is rolled out. If the state budget falls short by $35 billion over the next four years, the university budgets will be cut and the UWF classrooms and conference center may have to be built later.

As the national economy tanks, we may find it harder for the Maritime Museum to raise all the funds it needs, especially it depends on matches from the state. It too may have to be built in phases.

However, we can build the infrastructure for these buildings. We can build the waterfront public park with the amphitheater. We can build the stadium which will attract restaurants, retailers and others to the site.
