Friends response to CRA debate

Friends of the Vince Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park

The Community Maritime Park Associates Board of Trustees continues to make great strides on the waterfront park that we all worked so hard to make a reality. We can be proud of how quickly and deliberately they have worked over the past six months.

Recent debates in Tallahassee over possible changes in property taxes and how local governments are funded have made this project more important than ever. The Vince Whibbs, Sr. Community Maritime Park will bring significant tax revenues to Escambia County and the City of Pensacola beyond just property taxes. It will attract business and commerce critical to revitalizing our local economy. The park will make the waterfront accessible to all. And most importantly, the park will generate 1,500 new jobs.

Our lawmakers are working to pass legislation that offers property tax relief. They will also take into consideration Pensacola’s Community Redevelopment Agency and the other 140 such agencies across the state that are funding similar capital improvements.

As Pensacola moves towards its 450th anniversary in 2009, we know that perseverance has been one of the keys to the longevity of this community. This and future generations are counting on us.

Thank you for all you do to make this “A Better Pensacola!”
