Despite pressure from the right wing for Paul Ryan’s ouster, Congressman Matt Gaetz told Inweekly that he supports the Speaker of the House.
“Paul Ryan might be the smartest member of Congress. He’s a very detailed guy. He’s a very policy oriented guy and for all of the criticism of Paul Ryan, much of it is quite unfair,” said Gaetz.
“Look at the results. If we had into law all of the legislation that he House has passed, the American people would be very happy. Our challenge is that the Senate won’t pass a repeal of Dodd-Frank. They won’t pass a repeal of Obamacare. They won’t pass consequences for sanctuary cities. They won’t pass funding for a border wall, money for pay increases for our troops.”
He added, “On these key critical Conservative priorities, Paul Ryan has found a way to get those out of the House of Representatives. It’s the United States Senate under Mitch McConnell’s leadership that does not function in a way that has allowed the President to fully execute his agenda.”
