Gas tax for education?

Yesterday the IN reported that Escambia All for One is putting together an effort to save the K-8 Carver School in Century that is scheduled to close next year. The group is in talks with County Commissioners and the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to try and pull $400,000 a year from the county’s gas tax to revitalize the school.

NorthEscambia.com interviewed Scott Remington who chairs EAO. Remington said that he and All for One were not working to keep Carver/Century open to change Century’s mind about support for the governmental the consolidation. He said the group spoke out in support of the school when they first approached the council back in August, well before Century rescinded support for Escambia All for One.

Three points:
1) Gas taxes need to be spent on transportation.
2) If Century wants to keep Carver/Century open, then make it a charter school and fund the shortfall themselves.
3) Where is State Rep. Evers? He was so concerned about Century that he strong-armed the town council to withdraw its support of consolidation. Why isn’t he leading the charge to help them keep their school? A week ago, the council was calling Escambia All for One liars –now the group is trying to do what the council won’t to do, save its school. And Evers is just laughing in the background.
