There are few takers for the Gulf Breeze City Council races. Mayor Lane Gilchrist and Mayor Pro Tem Clay Ford have filed for re-election. No one has failed against either incumbent.
Gilchrist is one of the longest serving, active public officials in Florida. He was first elected to the council in 1982. He was elected mayor in 1992.
Ford recently served a term as the president of the Florida League of Cities and has been on the council since 1990.
Both are fine men who serve for all the right reasons.
I am not seeking a fifth term. I was first elected in 1992. As of our print deadline, only Joe Henderson has filed to run for my seat.
Other potential candidates that have been mentioned are John Griffing, Bob Cleveland, Paul Snider and Deborah Roche. The filing deadline is Friday, September 8.
