Press release: John Maxwell-certified trainer Rachael Gillette and former WEAR-TV anchor Mollye Barrows know what it takes to speak before an audience with ease and confidence and will share that knowledge at a workshop for women on Saturday, March 28. This is the second in a series of workshops offered by the Institute for Women in Politics of Northwest Florida this year.

Gillette, currently the Director of Professional Development for Studer Communications Group, gained her first public speaking experience as a barrister (lawyer) in the British courts and has kept current in her skills through the John Maxwell Advanced Leadership Certification Program. Barrows worked as a reporter and anchor for ABC affiliate WEAR-TV until she was hired away last year to be a researcher and reporter for PensacolaToday.com and the Studer Community Institute.

“There are so many women who find themselves in positions where they have to speak before groups, either as part of their professional lives or their community and charitable work or as political candidates, and they haven’t had the opportunity to learn how to speak effectively,” Gillette said. “This workshop will provide that opportunity in a very supportive and positive way.”

Gillette noted that the skills taught in the workshop will include how to craft and prepare a presentation, how to engage an audience and build trust, and how to manage and minimize nervousness. Individual professional evaluations will also be provided to those participants who opt to give a short speech.

The workshop is available to all women in the region and is free to Institute members. The cost to non-members is $50. Any woman who joins as a member of the Institute prior to registering for the workshop will also be able to attend at no cost.

Registration deadline is March 26. To register, go to iwpflorida.org and click on “Workshops.” For more information, email the Institute at contact@iwpflorida.org.
