Give up garbage

A year ago, the Pensacola City Council could have handed over its garbage collection to ECUA and saved the residents money. Now they are fighting another rate increase and looking at how they can streamline operations. They will spend $519,000 on equipment to pick up yard debris that can be operated by one person, rather than three-person crews.

This is a losing battle. Rates will be increased, if not before the election, then after. The city is too small to have its own garbage service. This is definitely an area that needs consolidation.
