The First City Art Center will be holding a #GivingTuesdayNow fundraiser to help support the 501(c)(3) non-profit while they are unable to offer classes or host fundraising events.
Like so many businesses recently, First City has been affected by a significant loss of income due to COVID-19, as they have had to temporarily close doors and postpone all classes, workshops, outreach, and events. As a local non-profit organization, First City relies heavily on community support via fundraising events, and is now counting on a strong show of support for this virtual fundraiser in lieu of regularly scheduled events.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
While currently unable to host field trips, classes, and make-your-own-glass sessions, the Art Center has been posting “Isolation Creation†ideas daily on their Facebook and Instagram pages. Art, whether experienced or created, is crucial to mental health and human expression.
Even though we are physically separated, First City Art Center is striving to keep our community connected and inspired, encouraging virtual collaboration and ideas to allow for creativity and growth during a stressful and challenging time.
