Good news from city hall, Aug. 28

Late yesterday afternoon, the mayor’s office sent out its digital “Upwords” newsletter.

City government had some wins:

During the first quarter of 2015, Pensacola International Airport led the Gulf Coast with the lowest average airfares of any airport in the region, according to recent data from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The U.S. Tennis Association’s Florida Executive Committee has selected Roger Scott Tennis Center as their Member Organization of the Year.

On the Non-profit scene:

Dragon Boat Festival will be held Saturday, September 12 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Bayview Park. For more information, or to register your team, visit pensacoladragonboatfestival.com.

The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department and Blues Angel Music host the Downbeat Jazz Orchestra show at the Hunter Amphitheater in Community Maritime Park on August 30 starting at 6:00 pm.
Admission is free. Guests may bring chairs, blankets and coolers or picnic baskets. Please do not bring pets or glass containers. Concessions will be available.

The Mayor’s Neighborhood Cleanup, a concentrated sweep through a neighborhood to cleaning up litter and removing abandoned vehicles, will be held today in two areas.

The first area is from Brent/Bayou Blvd. on the south, 12th Avenue up to Langley Avenue on the east, the city limits on the north just past Burgess Road and then along the city limits on the west back down to Brent Lane. The second area starts at Langley Avenue on the south, follows the city limits up to ninth Avenue, follows Creighton Road/city limits over to Olive Road. It also includes Camelot/Le Jeune Subdivisions north of Interstate 10. It follows Interstate 10 to just west of Schwab drive and along the city limits on the west back down to Langley Avenue.
