Goodwill Gulf Coast has selected Barry Reed as its new President and CEO following a comprehensive national search. Reed, who currently serves as Vice President of Donated Goods Retail, will assume leadership on Oct. 1, 2025, succeeding Frank Harkins upon his retirement.
Reed brings nearly two decades of organizational experience to the executive role, having joined Goodwill Gulf Coast as a donation attendant and advancing through multiple leadership positions. His tenure demonstrates extensive knowledge of operations while maintaining consistent focus on maximizing revenue from donated goods to support organizational programs and services.
“Barry’s passion, experience, and deep connection to our mission make him the ideal leader for Goodwill Gulf Coast’s next chapter,” stated Richard Wilkins, Board Chair. “His advancement within the organization exemplifies Goodwill’s core values of opportunity, professional development, and community service.”
Reed holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and recently completed his MBA at the University of West Florida. His educational background, combined with operational expertise, positions him to advance the organization’s mission of empowering individuals through education, employment, and supportive services.
“It’s an honor to follow in Frank’s footsteps and lead an organization that has provided me with significant growth opportunities,” Reed commented. “I am committed to ensuring Goodwill Gulf Coast continues improving lives through work and education initiatives.”
The leadership transition follows Harkins’ remarkable 50-year career in nonprofit service, including 46 years with Alabama Easter Seals and later Goodwill Gulf Coast following their 1999 merger. Under his stewardship, the organization has established itself as a regional leader in workforce development and support services.
Goodwill Gulf Coast currently serves seven counties in southwest Alabama and three counties in the Florida panhandle. The organization’s fiscal year 2024 performance demonstrates significant community impact, providing over 23,000 services to 14,474 individuals through workforce development programs, early childhood preparation, and medical, financial, and disability support services. Financial efficiency remains strong, with 90 cents of every dollar directed to programs and services.
Reed’s appointment represents both continuity and advancement for Goodwill Gulf Coast as the organization continues expanding its impact across the 10-county service area.
