Al Gore has announced plans for Live Earth, a 24-hour concert held simultaneously in different cities on all seven continents – on July 7.
Launched in partnership with Save Our Selves, the event seeks to bring international attention to global warming with performances in Shanghai, Johannesburg, Sydney, and London. Locations in Japan, Brazil, Antarctica, and the United States have yet to be confirmed. MSN, hoping to draw up to two billion viewers, will broadcast Live Earth worldwide via multiple platforms.
Announced performers, so far: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi, the Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, Pharrell, the Black Eyed Peas, AFI, Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Corrine Bailey Rae, John Legend, Fall Out Boy, Keane, Kelly Clarkson, Bloc Party, and Akon, among others. No information yet about which cities will host which bands.
….if Gore had announced this in Pensacola, somebody from Live Aid would have gotten up and said, “This isn’t Live Aid. We’re not dead. We just haven’t held a concert in 27 years. We’re coming back.”
